School Fundraising Auction Ideas

Organizing a school fundraising event is quite a challenging task. In order to run a profitable and successful fundraiser, it is important to keep a few aspects in mind as you plan the event.

It is necessary to always plan with success as your goal. Give a lot of attention to details as you plan this important event as otherwise, even the best school fundraising ideas may not succeed. So, be sure to have in place a primary, secondary and tertiary plan.

It is better to leave the organization of the event to one person as too many cooks tend to spoil the dish. Choose the most competent person and hand over the responsibility. Delegating authority in the right manner is one of the most important aspects that can bring your school fundraising ideas to successful fruition. Choose trusted people who are talented in specific areas and hand over the tasks to them. It is necessary to make the chosen staff understand that they are accountable for the assigned tasks and must take complete responsibility.

In order to ensure that you reach your goal and your fundraising ideas generate profit, it is necessary to advertise and promote your school fundraising event in the best possible manner. You can send out press releases to your local media and also post details of the event on your school website.

School fundraising ideas such as dinner, musical or dance programs can be a great success if you take efforts in pre-selling tickets. It is a good idea not to place all your eggs in a single basket. For any business, success rests on creating multiple streams of income. It is important to treat your fundraiser as a business and conduct more than one spread through the year rather than depend on a single program. Using multiple events with innovative fundraising ideas is the most effective way of generating enough funds for the school requirements.

Utility Audit

Manufacturing companies spend large amounts of money on electricity and natural gas in their operations. Managing these expenses can be a key factor to whether a company is profitable or not. Utility companies are not necessarily over charging their customers on purpose, but they don’t have any incentives to make sure their clients are getting the best deal possible either. Therefore, by working with a utility bill auditing and consulting company, manufactures can save money on their utility bills.

You might ask yourself if hiring an auditing company is necessary. Having been in this industry for several years, I would tell you that it is critical. There are so many variables to what you are charged. There are different rate or meter schedules. There are discounts that apply to certain types of industries or businesses. There are different times of day that bring different charges. By working with a utility consultant, you are tapping in to expertise that you simply don’t have the time or interest to obtain.

The beauty of the utility consulting industry is that many of the companies in this sector will work on a performance basis. What does this mean? Well, if the utility consultant is unable to save you money by getting you refunds or reducing your bill, they simply do not charge you anything. This gives you a great opportunity to have a no risk audit done of your utility bills. If a way is found to save you money, then it ends up being a win-win for you and the company you hired. If no savings are found, it does not cost you anything and you end up with peace of mind that you are not being overcharged by your utility providers.

You might ask what kind of money can be saved through a utility audit. Surprisingly, it can be quite substantial at times. Over the last several years, I have been involved in analyzing hundreds and maybe into the thousands of bills. I have seen some situations where our utility consulting firm was able to save companies as much as 50%. The average is probably more in the range of a 10% savings. Either way, this is overhead that these companies were able to cut with very little effort on their part and no out of pocket expense.

When Is the Best Time to Look for a New Job?

The old adage follows that the best time to look for a job is when you already have one. While this may still hold true, the reality of today’s economic climate dictates that many excellent candidates are finding themselves unemployed and in the midst of a job search. There are pros and cons to both classifications of candidates – those who are employed and those who are not, when it comes to identifying your next career opportunity. What I have found over the years as a Recruiter is that no matter what your motivation for seeking a new opportunity, preparation and attitude are key.

As a Girl Scout Leader, our motto is “Be Prepared”! You should always have an updated resume with your current position ready to send out, even if you are not really looking. The chance that you have been waiting for to break into a new role may be a phone call away, and if the opportunity presents itself, you will need to move quickly. In addition to having your resume ready to go, be sure to have a current list of professional references. Ask for a letter of recommendation whenever you transition from one department, role or company to another. In cases where whole departments have been downsized or disbanded, be sure to stay in touch with managers and co-workers so that they are reachable when you need them. The current workforce is a very dynamic environment, so keep an updated list of references and contact information.

Timing in all phases of considering a new role will be critical. Candidates who are not currently employed will have an obvious advantage with schedule flexibility and availability when it comes to the interview process. Candidates who are employed will have to ask themselves if they are committed to the interview process, and prepared to take the time to interview prior to engaging in a search.

Generally speaking, considering a new role while you are gainfully employed will give you the opportunity to evaluate and compare your current situation with the new opportunity. If you are unemployed, it may be tempting to accept the first job offer that comes your way; however, you need to think like a candidate who is employed so that you don’t end up in the wrong role. Ask yourself the same questions an employed candidate would consider. Will your skills be best utilized in this role? Will your one, five, and ten-year goals be met by joining this organization? Are you staying on track with your compensation history and goals? In the long run, taking the time to honestly evaluate an opportunity will benefit you both financially and career-wise.
